The 34th Conference of Defense Ministers of the East African Standby Force Countries Opens in Mogadishu.

The 34th Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Defence Ministers’ Meeting has officially opened in Mogadishu, which was attended by ministers, military officers and representatives from member countries of this organization.

The conference was opened by the Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, who delivered an opening speech, emphasizing issues on Security and defense cooperation among East African countries.

Minister Ahmed Fiqi said that Somalia is hopeful that the goals for which the EASF was established will be implemented, noting the important role that regional countries play in strengthening security and stability in the region, especially in the fight against terrorism.

“This conference comes at a critical time when this region faces many challenges and security threats that threaten peace and stability. I urge full cooperation in addressing these challenges,” said Minister Fiqi.

The conference was attended by Defense Ministers from countries including:Kenya,Uganda,Djibouti,Seychelles,Ethiopia,Sudan,Rwanda,Comoros, and Burudi .

The conference is expected to conclude with the issuance of an official statement strengthening security cooperation in the region.
