The governments of Jordan and Syria have started a new cooperation that they are waiting for on their common border, to prevent the smuggling of weapons and drugs, and to fight against the return of the Daesh group (ISIS) to the region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, described the new joint security committee as an important step to ensure governance.
“It is a step towards cooperation and improvement of the general situation of border security,” said Safadi, who also spoke about the importance of bilateral cooperation against terrorist groups.
On the other hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria, Al-Shibani, took advantage of this opportunity to repeat his call to request that the US sanctions on Syria be lifted.
He insisted that these sanctions are the main reason that has hindered the reconstruction and recovery efforts in Syria, which resulted from the destruction of the long civil war.
According to reports, the joint security committee is focusing on combating drug trafficking, which is one of the biggest problems on the border between Jordan and Syria.
