The International Committee for the Red Cross has warned that war-torn Sudan is “on the brink” of a public health crisis, with cholera and other deadly diseases spreading rapidly.

In just one week, Sudan’s health ministry has recorded 172 deaths from cholera, with most of the new cases reported in the capital, Khartoum, the ministry said in a Facebook post.

Local doctors, citing Sudanese media, reported that drone strikes caused a power outage at water purification plants, forcing residents to use contaminated water.
