Some of Somalia’s opposition politicians have issued a statement warning about the rules of elections, parties and the election commission recently passed by both houses of the country’s parliament.
These politicians include Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Hassan Ali Khayre and Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame.
Therefore, we warn of the dangers of the rules of elections, parties, and the committee appointed by the President who is said to be independent in the elections of the country, as they are based on the constitution that has been changed illegally, because everything that is created is invalid”, said the press release.
They said that the Electoral Commission and the rules are creating further conflict, political instability and security crisis in the country, and they say it will lead to a period of endless growth.
“On the other hand, the structure of the committee is against the federal system of the two levels of government, it returns the country to the centralized system where the power of the country was concentrated in one person. It is an election process in which the player and the judge are one and the same”, the press release said.
The conclusion of the press release said: “We are ready to participate in the discussion, construction, establishment and implementation of the rules of elections, parties and independent commissions if they are to build a consensual constitution, and negotiate an inclusive, open with accountable dialogue.”
