The President of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro and his delegation are heading to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to meet with the leaders of that country, according to reports.
The President’s visit came after an official invitation he received from the Federal Government of Ethiopia, and it was said that it is part of the strengthening of bilateral relations between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
While in Addis Ababa, the President of Somaliland is expected to have an official meeting with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, to discuss the relationship between Ethiopia and Somaliland and new cooperation opportunities.
Somaliland and Ethiopia have previously entered into a maritime agreement which resulted from political tensions between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa which caused a political controversy at the regional level, and became part of objections and statements that caused political tension.
This trip is considered important and re-strengthens the historical relationship between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
