Somaliland Presidency Spokesperson Says Israel’s Recognition Marks “Historic Reality”
Faisal Abdullahi
The Spokesperson for the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Hussein Aden Igeh (Deyr), has described Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a “historic reality” that reflects political facts on the ground and signals what he called the end of the long-standing “Greater Somalia” project.
In a statement published on his official X (formerly Twitter) account and cited by the Somaliland National News Agency (SOLNA), Deyr argued that the idea of Greater Somalia was a political concept built over more than 75 years on authoritarianism and unrealistic ambitions.
He said the Greater Somalia ideology had brought insecurity, political bloodshed, and fragmentation to the Horn of Africa, contributing to humanitarian crises and long-term underdevelopment among Somali communities across the region.
According to the spokesperson, Somaliland’s recognition by Israel is not merely an act of fairness, but a rational alignment with current geopolitical realities.
Deyr emphasized that international recognition of Somaliland prioritizes regional stability and constructive cooperation, rather than clinging to what he described as a failed and outdated political vision.
He concluded by stating that Somaliland’s recognition is an irreversible cause whose time has come.
