The police of the self-proclaimed independent Republic of Somaliland said in a statement today that they have arrested nine suspects who were involved in buying voting cards which is described as a flagrant violation of Somaliland’s rules and the general conduct of the election.
All the accused will be immediately brought before the judicial authorities, according to the police.
The statement issued by the police “warned the community against such acts, and anyone caught in this criminal act will be prosecuted according to the law.”
This issue comes at a time when Somaliland is preparing for the elections that are expected to take place tomorrow, which are two elections at the same time.
Voters are voting for the election of the president and vice president in which candidates from the Kulmiye, Wadani and Ucid parties are competing, and the union election where ten unions are expected to emerge from three parties.
