Mogadishu, November 3, 2025 – Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, responded to public complaints by conducting an urgent inspection of a National Identity Registration Agency (NIRA) center in Hodan district, Banadir region.
He instructed agency officials to make the process of obtaining National ID cards easier and more efficient for citizens.
“The scenes we have seen on social media are unacceptable. Young women should not be forced to come at night or sleep outside; it endangers their safety and is inappropriate. Work schedules should be extended to reduce crowding, and services must be made more accessible to the public,” Prime Minister Hamsa said.
He also directed the agency to separate the registration process from card collection, so that those picking up their ID cards do not have to wait in the same lines as new registrants, streamlining service for the community.
