President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Kismayo, Lower Jubba region, for a critical two-day meeting with Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe).
This marks the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since their fallout at the National Consultative Assembly in October 2024.
Tensions between the Federal Government and Jubbaland had escalated into violence, particularly following the Electoral Commission’s failure to broker an agreement, deepening the political rift.
The meeting is being attended by diplomatic delegations from Kenya, the UAE, and Ethiopia, who are playing a key mediating role in hopes of defusing tensions and pushing for a resolution.
While no official outcome has been announced yet, sources suggest that external pressure is mounting for a political consensus, raising cautious optimism for a breakthrough.
