Mogadishu, September 30, 2025 – Somalia’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector, describing it as a vital pillar for national economic growth and international cooperation.

Speaking at a ceremony in Mogadishu marking Somalia’s Tourism Day, Deputy Prime Minister Jibril noted that the DanQaran Government is giving special attention to the development of tourism and related infrastructure across the country.

“Somalia is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage,” he said. “Our government is focused on encouraging investment in critical infrastructure such as roads, airports, seaports, security, and other services that directly support the growth of tourism.”

He emphasized that a vibrant tourism sector could not only contribute significantly to the national economy but also strengthen Somalia’s ties with the international community, particularly through regional cooperation with bodies such as the East African Community and IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development).

The Deputy Prime Minister concluded his remarks by expressing appreciation for the efforts of those working in Somalia’s tourism sector, acknowledging their role in promoting the country’s image and fostering economic development.

The event served as a reminder of Somalia’s untapped tourism potential and the government’s strategic focus on harnessing it to improve livelihoods and showcase the nation’s rich cultural and environmental assets.
