The US Africa Command, or AFRICOM, said that, in cooperation with the federal government of Somalia, they conducted an airstrike in the Sabiid area of the Lower Shabelle region on the 19th of this month.
“In cooperation with the Federal Government, we conducted airstrikes in the Sabiib area, resulting in various casualties,” the AFRICOM press release said.
AFRICOM also did not report the casualties suffered by Al-Shabaab militants nor did it disclose whether civilians were harmed in the airstrike.
It was recently that government forces officially took control of the key areas of Sabiib and Canoole in the Lower Shabelle region.
