Somalia; The oil exploration vessel “Oruc Reis” completed 50 percent of the oil exploration in the Somali sea.

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced on Friday that the oil exploration vessel “Oruc Reis” has completed 50 percent of the oil exploration in the Somali Sea.

The ship “Oruc Reis”, docked in Mogadishu port in October last year to begin an exploration operation to search for oil and natural gas off the coast of Somalia.
Minister Bayraktar met with the new Minister of Petroleum and Minerals of Somalia, Dahir Shire Mohamed, and a delegation he led, in the meeting that took place in Istanbul, as he said in a post posted by X.

Oruc Reis is conducting three-dimensional (3D) soil studies in Somali waters, which will gather important survey data to identify potential oil and natural gas fields over a period of six to seven months.

This data will be analyzed in the Turkish capital of Ankara to identify the most suitable locations for oil and gas drilling.

The Oruc Reis is surveying around 5,000 km in circumference, according to the Turkish Energy Ministry.

Oruc Reis is accompanied by two warships, waiting for his security.

Minister Bayraktar said that the Turkish Petroleum company has licenses for the exploration of marine areas divided into three areas with a circumference of 15,000 km.
