The Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali, who has been on an official visit to the Republic of Djibouti this week, met with the President of Djibouti, H.E. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, during his stay there.
The Minister, who was accompanied by his Djiboutian counterpart, Hon. Moumin Hassan Barre, expressed his gratitude to President Guelleh for the continuous support and brotherly solidarity that Djibouti has always shown toward Somalia.
He described President Guelleh as the savior of Somalia following the country’s state collapse in 1991, recalling in particular the 2000 peace conference held in Arta, Djibouti, which led to the establishment of Somalia’s Third Republic.
Finally, the Minister thanked both President Guelleh and his counterpart, the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments of Djibouti, for the warm and brotherly welcome extended to him and his delegation.
He also noted that the Somali Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments will implement in Somalia some of the successful initiatives learned from Djibouti — such as the development of endowments (Awqaf), the establishment of a Zakat registry, and the creation of an Institute for Moderation and Peace Promotion inspired by Djibouti’s experience.
