The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in the Extraordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which discussed finding a solution to the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
President Hassan pointed out the importance of this meeting for the stability of the region, and presented how Somalia, which is part of the United Nations Security Council, is committed to strengthening the role of Africa in finding solutions to the problems in the continent.
“The conflict in eastern DRC is a humanitarian disaster, and it requires urgent action to ensure lasting peace. Joint diplomacy between the two organizations is an important key to reducing tensions, and solutions should be sought through dialogue and consensus, rather than making war a solution.”
The President of the Republic confirmed that Somalia stands by the peace efforts led by the EAC and SADC, and is ready to contribute to the resolution of the DRC conflict, benefiting from its experience in reconciliation and peace building.
