Somalia PM Visits China’s Ningxia to Seek Energy and Industrial Cooperation.

Yinchuan, 27 August 2025 – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has visited the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China, as part of efforts to strengthen Somalia’s energy and industrial sectors.

The Ningdong complex is regarded as one of China’s leading hubs for industrial innovation and clean energy transition. During his tour, Prime Minister Barre explored how Somalia could draw from Ningxia’s experience in building diverse energy industries, advancing industrial growth, and adopting clean energy solutions.

The visit aligns with Somalia’s National Transformation Plan, which prioritises sustainable development.

In his remarks, Barre described Ningxia as a model region that illustrates how clear and long-term policies can deliver progress in energy and industry. He stressed that Somalia stands to benefit from cooperation with China in areas such as energy production, industrial development, and economic growth.

“Somalia aims to build a modern energy sector, create new industrial opportunities, and accelerate youth employment by leveraging advanced technology and foreign investment,” the Prime Minister said.

He highlighted that Somalia’s young population is the backbone of the country’s future, and that investment in this sector would directly contribute to job creation.
