Somalia Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, is on an official visit to Italy, where he held a bilateral meeting in Rome with his Italian counterpart, H.E. Guido Crosetto, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Italy.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of defence, maritime security, counter-terrorism efforts, the development and professionalisation of the Somali National Armed Forces and funding for the AUSSOM Mission. Both sides expressed commitment to advancing joint initiatives under Italy’s Mattei Plan.
The two Ministers reaffirmed the historic friendship and enduring partnership between Somalia and Italy, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration in promoting peace, stability, and security in Somalia and across the wider region.
