The government of Somalia has welcomed the resolution of the United Nations Security Council approved today, which was to change the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) to a temporary operation for the next two years.

At a meeting held today by the UN Security Council, a majority passed a resolution to replace the UN mission in UNSOM, and it was made into a temporary mission called UNTMIS, with the transition process starting on November 1, 2024.

This resolution was the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, which requested a review of the United Nations Mission in UNSOM.
