The Federal Government of Somalia has announced that the Somali National Army, in collaboration with international partners, carried out a specially planned airstrike.
The airstrike took place in areas of Middle Shabelle, specifically the Damasha and Shabelleow areas, where they said the leader of al-Shabaab in charge of combat vehicles was killed.
A press release issued by the military command said that Mansoor Tima-Weeyne, who was the mastermind behind the preparation and use of combat vehicles, was killed.
Mansoor is said to have recently arrived from the Bulo Fulay area, driving a refurbished vehicle that the group used for its attacks, according to the press release.
The vehicles was said to have consisted of two vehicles, loaded with heavy machine guns and machine guns, and another vehicle that the group used to harass the Somali population.
The operation was meticulously planned, targeting senior al-Shabaab members, the command said in a statement.
The command also said the strike was a major setback to the group’s combat capabilities and was part of the fight to weaken terrorism.
