Mogadishu, 28 October 2025 — The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, today attended a ceremony marking the acceleration of the Jowhar Off-Stream Storage Programme (JOSP).

Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama stated that this project is a national initiative that serves as a pillar of the National Transformation Plan (2025–2029), which aims to enhance water management and agricultural development.

He emphasized that the project will empower Somalis to harness the country’s natural resources, reducing reliance on foreign aid, and is expected to benefit more than 300,000 Somali citizens.

The programme involves the construction of reservoirs to store rainwater and water from the Shabelle River, aiming to prevent recurrent floods and droughts in the Middle Shabelle region — particularly in Jowhar city and surrounding areas.
