Somali National Army Reports Major Progress in Counterterrorism and Institutional Reforms

The Somali Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, together with the SNA CDF, General Odowa Yusuf Rage, today briefed the Upper House of the Federal Parliament on the progress of the Ministry of Defence and SNAF, recent achievements in the fight against terrorism, SNA reform, and the overall security situation in the country.

Minister Fiqi highlighted that over the past twelve months, the Somali National Armed Forces have demonstrated exceptional courage, sacrifice, and resilience in safeguarding the nation. Through extensive counterterrorism operations, the forces have defended the country and liberated vast territories from terrorist control.

The Minister noted that since February, 220 precision airstrikes have been conducted, resulting in the elimination of 868 militants, including 52 senior leaders of Daesh and Al-Shabaab.

For his part, General Odowa Yusuf Rage presented an overview of the operational progress and institutional reforms within the Somali National Armed Forces, emphasizing that the restructuring and professionalisation of the army have been reinitiated to build a capable, disciplined, and self-reliant national force.

The Chief of Defence reiterated the commitment to continue reforms, training, and capacity-building efforts aimed at developing a professional force capable of effectively responding to all security challenges facing the nation.
