The Ministry of Defence welcomes the successful completion of the first training programme for units of the Egyptian Armed Forces, who will soon join the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) had earlier approved the participation of Egyptian troops in AUSSOM. This reflects Egypt’s growing role in supporting stabilisation and security efforts in Somalia.
This step underscores Egypt’s strong commitment to supporting Somalia’s security and strengthening the capacity of the Somali National Army through the new AUSSOM framework.
The Ministry of Defence also acknowledges the important role of the African Union and international partners in reinforcing national security institutions, and in accelerating joint efforts to defeat the Al-Shabaab and ISIS terrorist groups.
