The Internal Security Minister Abdullaahi Sheekh Ismaaciil fartaag chaired a key meeting on the implementation of the National ID Card system for passport issuance a critical step for Somalia’s digital identity and security.
Starting September 1, 2025, a National ID Card will be required to apply for a passport.
From the beginning of the new year, all domestic travelers must carry their National ID to verify personal identity.
Also the meeting was attended by the State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar (Ali Balcad), NIRA Director Abdiweli Ali Cabdulle (Tima-cadde), HSJ Director General Mustaf Dhuxuloow, and staff from both organizations.
