Aswan, October 25, 2025 – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. AbdiSalam Abdi Ali, met today, Monday, in Aswan with his Egyptian counterpart, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, on the sidelines of the fifth Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors, including security, trade, investment, health, and development. Both ministers reaffirmed their joint commitment to deepening ties and advancing mutual interests between the two brotherly countries.
In a significant step to boost economic relations, the two sides agreed to convene the second Somali–Egyptian Business Forum soon, aiming to enhance trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.
The meeting also addressed the deployment of Egyptian troops as part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
During the talks, Minister AbdiSalam Abdi expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing support and reiterated Mogadishu’s commitment to strengthening cooperation based on shared values and historical ties.
For his part, Minister Abdel Aaty praised the positive momentum in Somali-Egyptian relations and emphasized Egypt’s commitment to fostering a strategic partnership that supports stability and prosperity in the Horn of Africa. He welcomed progress in Egypt’s participation in ATMIS and stressed the importance of sustainable international funding to ensure the mission’s success.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s continued support for Somalia’s institution-building, peace efforts, and reconciliation, while also calling for greater unity among Somali leaders to face current security challenges.
Both sides agreed on the need to intensify cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism, stressing that regional peace and stability depend on joint action and solidarity.
The ministers concluded the meeting by reaffirming the importance of maintaining close coordination at regional and international levels to address common challenges and promote peace, development, and stability in the Horn of Africa.
