Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed talks between his country and Ukraine, the first time since the war began. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, for his part, insists that Ukraine is ready for any talks to stop attacks on civilians.
The two leaders are facing pressure from the United States, which has threatened to halt its peace efforts if progress is not made.
Russia and Ukraine have said they are ready for an extended ceasefire after a 30-hour ceasefire for the Easter holiday announced by Moscow recently.
Speaking to Russian state television, Putin said the fighting had resumed after a pause of an hour-long ceasefire, and said Moscow was open to any peace plan and expected Kyiv to be ready for it.
