The emergency aid service in Ukraine said that at least 10 people, including two children, were killed and 52 others were killed after the Russian army shelled the Sumu region in the northeast of Ukraine last night.
The head of the military administration of Sumy region, Volodymyr Artyukh, said that the shelling hit a large 9-story building, where hundreds of people, mostly families, lived.
The Emergency Service of Ukraine said in a statement on Telegram that so far more than 400 people have been rescued from the area and emergency workers are still evacuating people who lived in the bombed house.
Since the start of the war between Ukraine and Russia at the beginning of 2022, thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, most of them from Ukraine.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, President Joe Biden for the first time allowed Ukrainian forces to attack Russia with long-range missiles deployed by the United States to Ukraine, after a massive campaign by Ukrainian officials.
The weapons will probably be used in response to North Korea’s decision to send thousands of Russian soldiers to support Moscow, especially in the Kursk region where the Ukrainian army attacked last summer.
