The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is expected to once again to have a meeting with the opposition members united in the Somali Salvation Forum today in Mogadishu.
Today’s meeting will discuss the dispute over the nature of the 2026 elections and amendments to the Somali constitution.
The Opposition Forum, led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, consists of former Prime Ministers and other leaders.
The meeting comes at a time when the Puntland and Jubbaland administrations are opposing the process of amending the country’s Constitution and the direction of the elections.
Some source says that today’s meeting will be one in which preliminary decisions will be made, with a new timetable for constitutional review likely to be announced in the coming days.
