Mogadishu – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, departed for Kampala, Uganda, this evening to attend a high-level summit for countries contributing troops to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), soon to be restructured under the new AUSSOM initiative.
The summit brings together leaders of nations whose forces have been operating in Somalia as part of the ongoing efforts to stabilize the country and transition security responsibilities to Somali forces.
President Hassan Sheikh is expected to hold discussions with his counterparts on the future of the mission, regional security cooperation, and the next phase of Somalia’s path toward full security autonomy.
