Jigjiga, January 31, 2026 — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was warmly received upon arrival at Garad Wiil-Waal Airport in Jigjiga, where he held high-level meetings with Abiy Ahmed and Mustafe Omer.
The leaders discussed the security and political situation in the Horn of Africa, explored solutions to ongoing regional challenges, and emphasized strengthening economic cooperation. The Government of Somalia reiterated its priority on enhancing diplomatic efforts aimed at safeguarding Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.
During his stay in Jigjiga, President Hassan Sheikh is also expected to attend inauguration ceremonies for several development projects implemented in the Somali Regional State. The projects are designed to boost the regional economy and improve public services, reflecting broader efforts to promote stability and development in the region.
