Mogadishu, May 10, 2025 – The recent heavy rains in Mogadishu have sparked not only a humanitarian concern but also a political exchange between senior Somali officials.
Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, Abdiqadir Mohamed Nur (Jaamac), downplayed the criticism by highlighting that natural disasters are not unique to Somalia, stating that even wealthier and more powerful countries struggle to cope with such events.
“Natural disasters happen everywhere. Even countries wealthier and more powerful than us often fail to handle them,” said Minister Jaamac.
On the other hand, MP Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, a member of the House of the People, directed a public appeal to the President, urging him to take direct action to address the dire conditions in Mogadishu.
“We voted for you, Mr. President. Please take responsibility and fix this city,” said the MP.
These contrasting statements reflect the growing tension between government response and public expectations, as Mogadishu continues to suffer from flooding, infrastructure damage, and the aftermath of the torrential rains.
RNN Somali TV will continue monitoring the political and humanitarian developments in the capital.
