At least 60 people have died following a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the central Philippines, according to the country’s disaster management officials.

The city of Bogo and other affected districts have been declared a state of disaster. The earthquake struck off the coast of Cebu City on Tuesday, causing widespread power outages and severe damage to buildings.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has not issued a tsunami warning.

Residents in the affected areas told the media they slept outside on the streets last night, fearing further earthquakes or the collapse of damaged buildings.
