North Korea has confirmed that it has tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile, which crashed into waters off the eastern coast of the Korean Gulf.

The KCNA news agency said that the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, witnessed the missile test, sending a message to the United States and its allies.
This was North Korea’s longest missile test, according to South Korean and Japanese officials.

Japan’s Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said that the missile fell about 300 km west of Okushiri Island in Japan.

These two countries, South Korea and Japan, have expressed concern about the development of modern weapons in North Korea.

Thursday’s test violated UN sanctions and came at a time of worsening inter-Korean relations as Pyongyang stepped up its provocative rhetoric towards Seoul.
