The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) arrested two Al-Shabaab members last night in a planned operation in Afgooye district, Lower Shabelle region.
According to the official NISA press release, one of the arrested members was a leader in charge of collecting extortion money, while the second member was an intelligence member of the group, who was collecting information and planning secret assassinations within the city.
”The arrest of this Al Shabab leaders who was responsible for extortion money follows an official warning issued by NISA on the 20th of this month, which stated that the collection and disbursement of such funds is terrorist financing, which is against the laws of the country and international regulations. Therefore, Somali businessmen and the public are once again warned against providing funds to fund the Al Shabab group.” said the press realesed.
The Federal Government of Somalia is fully committed to eliminating the Al Shabab who pose a threat to national security.
