A planned demonstration in Mogadishu organized by the Rescue Council, in alliance with the opposition, has been postponed for 9 days.

The protest was originally scheduled for today and was to be held in three locations: Sinai, Tarabuun, and Deniile.

The delay comes after traditional elders and local parliamentarians mediated with the opposition, convincing them to postpone the demonstration to allow for technical preparations.

Former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed confirmed the postponement in a media statement, acknowledging the elders’ and independent delegations’ efforts.

The Federal Government of Somalia, through the mediation committee, reaffirmed its support for the right to peaceful assembly and protest, while emphasizing the importance of coordinating on timing and location to ensure public security.
