Mogadishu and Berbera Ports Ranked Top in East Africa

Mogadishu and Berbera ports have been recognized as East Africa’s top-performing maritime gateways in the 2024 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), published by the World Bank and S&P Global. Mogadishu ranked 163rd globally and first in East Africa, while Berbera ranked 243rd and second regionally.

The rankings are based on port efficiency, including vessel turnaround times. The Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport attributed the success to improved governance, digital systems, and strong public-private partnerships. Government investments in modern equipment and terminal expansions, particularly at Mogadishu Port, significantly boosted performance.

These achievements place Somalia’s ports among Africa’s best, highlighting the government’s commitment to transforming the maritime sector and supporting economic development.
