A boat carrying around 35 migrants from Libya sank in the central Mediterranean after spending two days at sea, UNICEF confirmed on Sunday.
The Italian Coast Guard rescued 11 people, including four unaccompanied children, and recovered the body of a pregnant woman near the island of Lampedusa. Two others remain missing, while the fate of the rest is unknown.
The incident underscores the ongoing dangers faced by migrants crossing the Mediterranean, where thousands of migrants and refugees risk their lives each year in search of safety and better opportunities in Europe ,one of the world’s deadliest migration routes.
