Forces from the Mabah area, under the Moqokori district of Hiran region, launched a planned attack on a group of Al-Shabaab militants who had gathered in the Aden-Yabaal district of Middle Shabelle region at dusk.
The attack resulted in heavy fighting and heavy casualties among Al-Shabaab militants, according to government media reports.
The officers leading the operation said they killed a large number of Al-Shabaab fighters, and that the operation went as planned. They also said they succeeded in thwarting the enemy’s plot there.
An assessment of the casualties inflicted on the Khawarij is currently underway, with officials saying that many bodies are lying in the battle area between Mabah and Aden-Yabaal.
