Hiiraan Region, Somalia – Local forces based in Mabaax, a village under Moqokori district in the Hiiraan region, carried out a well-coordinated evening assault today against a group of Al-Shabaab militants gathering near Adan Yabaal, located in the Middle Shabelle region.
According to military officials who led the operation, the attack took place shortly after sunset (Maghrib prayer time) and resulted in a fierce gun battle with heavy casualties inflicted on the militant group.
“We killed a significant number of Al-Shabaab fighters. The operation went exactly as planned,” one of the commanders told National Media.
The forces reported that they not only dealt a severe blow to the militants but also successfully thwarted a major plot that the group was preparing to execute in the area.
An ongoing assessment is being conducted to determine the exact scale of the casualties. However, initial reports from military sources indicate that multiple bodies of militants remain at the battlefield, which lies between Mabaax and Adan Yabaal.
