The Iranian government is hosting its largest national funeral in years today, burying more than 60 people, including military commanders and scientists, who lost their lives in the 12-day war with Israel.
The conflict ended with a ceasefire earlier this week, after the United States was directly involved in bombing key Iranian nuclear facilities.
The officials being buried today include Mohammad Bagheri, Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, Hossein Salami, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, Chief of the Air Force and Air Missile Forces.
The officials killed were also said to include key figures working on Iran’s nuclear program, who were described as the muscle and brains of Iran’s defense.
