At least 800 people have been killed in a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan late Sunday , according to the United Nations humanitarian agency .
The earthquake hit remote Kunar province and the mountains closed roads making it difficult for rescue operations to be carried out by air, with helicopters struggling to reach the affected areas.
The death toll could rise as many people are still feared trapped under the rubble, while officials say entire villages have been destroyed.
