General Mohamed Said Hirsi Morgan has died in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was said to have been ill for some time, according to officials from the Puntland administration.
General Morgan had a long history in the Somali National Army, having held various positions.
He was one of the Somali officers who received military training abroad as a young man.
Since the civil war, General Morgan has lived within the country and was not one of the officers who fled the country.
General Morgan’s death was widely felt within Somalia and abroad, especially by his family, his former military colleagues, and the entire Somali nation who knew his role in the military and the Somali government.
