The political tensions between Puntland and Somalia’s Federal Government escalated today after Federal Minister of Interior, Ali Yusuf Hosh, issued a quick and firm response to remarks made by Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni.

In a strongly worded statement, Minister Hosh said:

“Rejecting the national dialogue initiative and undermining the self-determination of the SSC-Khatumo community is a path of obstruction. Somalis must come together, understand one another, and prioritize unity.”

The Minister’s remarks come in reaction to President Deni’s recent declarations distancing Puntland from the National Consultative Council and criticizing the Federal Government’s approach to political dialogue and constitutional matters.

This growing rift highlights the fragile nature of Somalia’s federal structure, and the urgent need for renewed negotiations to avoid further political fragmentation.

Observers say that the tension could delay critical national processes, including finalizing the constitution and preparing for the next electoral cycles.
