Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has spoken out strongly against the arrest of traditional elder Hussein Mohamed Mahmoud, widely known as Xaadoole, who was detained by police at his home in Mogadishu on Thursday night.

Farmaajo described the incident as an unjust act targeting a respected community leader who had been advocating for displaced and vulnerable residents of the capital. He argued that the arrest was intended to silence public dissent and stifle opposition to the misuse of state resources. According to him, the case illustrates how security forces are being manipulated for narrow personal interests instead of serving the people.

He Called for Xaadoole’s immediate release, the former president warned that the suppression of citizens’ grievances through intimidation and detention undermines both governance and public trust, with the potential to fuel unrest and destabilize the nation. He reminded authorities that the Provisional Constitution—particularly Articles 15, 18, and 20—guarantees freedom of speech, assembly, and peaceful protest, rights he said must be upheld for all citizens.
