Mogadishu – 6 May 2025
Former Somali intelligence chief and prominent political figure Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir has issued a strong criticism of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accusing him of sidelining democratic consensus in favor of consolidating personal power.
In a brief but pointed statement shared on social media, Fahad Yasin remarked:
“President Hassan… replaced a consensus-based election with a dominant party where he alone competes. He turned the National Consultative Forum into the Supreme Council of the Revolution.”
The comment reflects growing opposition concern over what is seen as an erosion of inclusive political processes. By invoking the term “Supreme Council of the Revolution,” Fahad Yasin draws a comparison to Somalia’s authoritarian past, suggesting a return to centralized, unilateral decision-making.
His criticism comes at a time when the National Consultative Council is under scrutiny, with some regional leaders absent from key meetings and opposition groups expressing concern over lack of transparency and inclusivity.
Fahad Yasin’s remarks signal a broader political tension, as many observers fear that the federal system and electoral progress made in recent years may be regressing under the current administration.
