A large number of Ethiopian troops have arrived near the Ethiopian-Somali border in Feerfeer, Amhara News reported.

These troops are expected to be deployed to Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions to participate in a series of battles against Al-Shabaab, which has launched counter-attacks in Middle Shabelle regions in recent days.

It was a few days ago that Ethiopian warplanes carried out heavy airstrikes in areas of Middle Shabelle, following a request from the Federal Government of Somalia.

This new military partnership reflects a strategic shift by the two countries to curb the resurgence of Al-Shabaab in central Somalia.

The deployment of Ethiopian troops to Ferefeer and the recent airstrikes demonstrate Ethiopia’s strong stance in preventing Al-Shabaab’s influence from spreading into its territory.
