Elon Musk, the billionaire closest to US President-elect Donald Trump, met with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations to ease tensions between Tehran and Washington.
he New York Times quoted unnamed Iranian sources as describing the meeting between Musk and Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani as “good.”
Trump’s campaign team, which includes Elon Musk, and Iran’s UN envoy did not immediately confirm the meeting, while Iran’s UN mission said it had no comment.
This meeting, if confirmed, could provide an early indication that Trump is serious about diplomacy with Iran, and is not choosing the warlike approach favored by many members of his Republican Party and Israel.
It will also show once again the extraordinary influence of Musk, the owner of Tesla and X, who is always close to Trump, reportedly even participating in phone conversations with world leaders.
Iran’s ambassador also urged Musk during their meeting to seek to do business in Tehran, exempt from US sanctions, The Times reported, citing an Iranian Foreign Ministry official.
