The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, has announced that Puntland will continue to remain absent until the Federal Government of Somalia fulfills previous agreements, which he claims the central government has violated.

Deni made it clear that he will not attend the upcoming National Consultative Council meeting scheduled for May in Mogadishu, an invitation extended by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

“President Hassan must fulfill the promises made during negotiations and return to the agreed terms,” said Deni, pointing directly to the political dispute between Puntland and the federal government, particularly over breaches related to the completion of the Constitution.

President Deni delivered these remarks at a time when political tensions between Puntland and the federal government are at a critical point, raising concerns about the potential impact on Somalia’s overall state-building process.
