At least 18 people have been killed and 800 injured after a powerful explosion rocked one of Iran’s largest ports, authorities said.
The blast occurred early on Sunday morning at Shahid Rajaee, the country’s largest commercial port, near the southern city of Bandar Abbas.
It also blew out windows and roofs of nearby buildings and damaged vehicles. Residents said the blast was felt 50km (31 miles) away.
Footage obtained by the BBC showed a large fire raging before the blast, with people fleeing the scene and others seen lying injured in flooded streets.
A private maritime company believes the explosion was caused by containers filled with rocket fuel that were not properly handled.
