It is feared that the death toll from the storm Chido that hit the French island of Mayotte will increase.
The typhoon greatly affected the island’s health system, as the water destroyed various parts of the general hospital, such as the intensive care unit, the maternity ward and the emergency room.
There is a lack of water, electricity and communication lines have also been cut. The island is isolated from the rest of the world.
The storm also destroyed the homes of poor people living on the island, which spread to the countries of Mozambique and Malawi.
It is difficult to record the official number of people who died in the storm, due to the fact that some families buried their dead relatives within 24 hours for religious reasons.
There have been no reports of displaced people yet, but it is feared that the situation will worsen in the coming days.
Hundreds of people have died on the island so far, and it is feared that the number will reach thousands and more.
