At least 11 people have reportedly been killed, and over 10 others injured, in a fierce clash that erupted in Labi-Caano, an area located east of Dhusamareb, the capital city of Galmudug State.
The conflict is said to have been triggered by a dispute between militias from the Ceelgaras and Dhusamareb areas over grazing land and water resources. Local sources indicate that the confrontation lasted for several hours, resulting in significant loss of life and multiple injuries.
The situation in the area remains tense, with no visible efforts yet to mediate between the warring sides. Residents have expressed grave concerns about the potential escalation of violence if immediate measures are not taken to resolve the conflict.
Officials from the Galmudug administration are expected to visit the affected area to assess the situation and work towards de-escalation. Community elders and traditional leaders are also being urged to play a critical role in mediating the dispute and ensuring the safety of civilians in the region.
It is imperative that the Galmudug administration, in collaboration with the federal government, prioritizes addressing these recurring conflicts over land and resources to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
