The Chinese spokesman praised the move by the Federal Government of Somalia to ban Taiwanese passport holders from entering the country; he added that they fully support Somali sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Somali Civil Aviation Authority issued a notice last week stating that starting Wednesday, Taiwanese passports will not be accepted for entry into Somalia.
Taiwan has accused the Chinese government of pressuring the Somali government to make this decision, as Taiwan, which is also a separatist, is improving its relations with Somaliland. The Somali government has not officially commented on the matter.
